A native of Columbia, Mo., Lexie Payne enters her 11th year as head coach and 12th season with the Stephens College tennis program. She joined the Stars' athletics staff as an assistant in 2005 following a successful playing career at the University of Missouri and Stephens College. In 2006, she was promoted to head coach.
Year round, Payne bolsters her coaching resume as a tennis instructor at the Country Club of Missouri, teaching individuals and groups of all ages.
As an undergraduate student at Stephens College, Payne had an undefeated singles record while pursuing a Fine Arts degree in Fashion Design. During this time, she developed a first-hand appreciation for Stephens College, particularly the small-college atmosphere, which offers young women a supportive and enriching environment to reach new accomplishments.
As both a tennis coach and a mentor, one of Payne's greatest rewards is watching freshman recruits mature through adulthood and develop endless confidence as they become Stephens women.
For Coach Payne, tennis is a game she continues to enjoy during different stages of her life. In addition, she firmly believes that creating a greater appreciation for the sport will likely benefit the student-athletes well beyond their college careers.
At the University of Missouri-Columbia, Payne obtained a B.A. in Art History, while playing three years for the Tigers. Along the way, she was named to the Big 12 Women's Tennis All-Academic team.
